Lombok International Airport (LOP) is in Praya, Central Lombok. Senaru, the village at the northern foot of Mount Rinjani where our basecamp is, is on the north side of the island. It is about 116–118 km away, or 2.5–3 hours by car in normal traffic.

The Route
From the airport the road passes Mataram, then heads to the north coast either through the Pusuk forest pass or along the Senggigi coast, then Pemenang, Tanjung and Bayan before climbing to Senaru. On the Pusuk pass you often see monkeys by the roadside, and along the north coast you get views of the sea and the Gilis.
Tips Before You Travel
- Try to land before late afternoon. Landing before about 3 pm means you reach Senaru before dark and get enough rest before the trek.
- Bring cash. There are few ATMs around Senaru. It is safer to withdraw money at the airport or in Mataram.
- Buy a SIM card at the airport. Phone signal in Senaru is fine, but on the mountain it is very limited.
Going Back from Rinjani to the Airport
Treks finish in Senaru, Sembalun or Torean, depending on the package. From Senaru to the airport is about 2.5–3 hours, from Sembalun about 1.5–2.5 hours. If your flight is on the same day you come down, choose an evening flight — or, safer, fly the next day.

Yes, we pick you up at Bangsal Harbour. From Bangsal to Senaru is about 1.5 hours.
